Raul Briones Cup Recap: Artesia DES FC Onto The Quarterfinals

LA MIRADA, CA (January 29, 2024) – Artesia DES FC could be awakening the spirits of tournament's past this season.

Jeremy Couto scored twice and Gerardo Rodriguez tallied the match-winner in the 66th minute as league orginal Artesia DES FC topped FC United Kingdom 4-3 in a classic SoCal Premier League Raul Briones Cup Round of 16 match at Portola Springs Community Park in Irvine on Sunday, Jan. 28.

The Artesia, CA-based club got back-to-back goals from Couto and Muny Chan around the 30th minute to take the lead, and went back-and-forth with FC United Kingdom, last year's Raul Briones Cup champions, until Rodriguez finished the scoring midway through the second half

Artesia DES FC, the one-time Raul Briones Cup champions, won its final two matches in Group B in this season's Raul Briones Cup, with a plus-4 goal differential after the group stage. The club has scored a combined 15 goals during the tournament (four matches).

Newcomers Craq FC advanced out of the Round of 16 with a 5-1 win over FC Cypress, Northeast Los Angeles FC earned the upset of the knockout round with a 1-0 win over Playmaker FC, Southwest SC beat Olympiacos CA, 2-0, AMSG FC scored at will in a 7-0 victory over California Natives FC and both La Familia FC and Rose City FC rolled on.
